Grandstream HT488 - Installation Instructions Connect the PSTN Use these instructions in conjunction with the HT488 Installation Diagram and User Manual Identify the Phone Handset (PHONE), ADSL Filter (FILTER), ADSL Modem (MODEM) and Computer (PC) Connect the PSTN (filtered phone line) DO NOT plug in the HT488 power pack until asked to do so. Remove the PHONE cord plug from the socket in the FILTER (most likely labelled as phone or handset) Now plug this connector into the HT488 socket marked PHONE Take the supplied PHONE cord and plug one end into the LINE socket on the HT488 Plug the other end back into the socket that you previously had the PHONE plugged into The HT488 is now effectively inserted in series with the previous PHONE cord Test that Your Phone Still Works Like It Did Before Pickup the handset You should hear the standard "telco" (phone company) dialtone Make a test call to a local number or your voicemail if necessary Connect the Ethernet Cable to Your Router Plug on end of the new ethernet cable onto the WAN socket on your HT488 and the other end into a spare LAN port on your router. (Tech Tip: Your router MUST be configured for Dynamic DHCP - normal) OPTION: NO Router - Connecting Directly to a MODEM NOTE: Even though this connection mode works in most cases, this style of setup is not supported by SmartFone as there are too many modem variables encountered. Remove the ethernet (network) cable from the MODEM (leave the other end plugged into your compter) and plug it into the LAN socket of the HT488 Take the supplied ethernet (network) cable (looks like the one plugged into your compter) and plug one end into the WAN socket on the HT488 Connect the other end of this ethernet cable and plug it into the socket in the modem that you previously removed the cable from (the one that previously went to the computer) The HT488 is now effectively inserted in series with the previous ethernet cable. Apply the Power Plug the power pack (plugpack) into a power point. Insert the free plug end into the HT488 socket marked DC 5V Turn on the power at the power point Power Up Sequence If the HT488 ATA is operating correctly it will follow a 30 sec initialization sequence (approx). The button light on the top of the box will fast flash red for about 10 seconds, then go out. You will hear a relay click inside the box, then the red button light on the top of the box will flash up to 10 times then extinguish.
